THE NEW AMBITION

Often times we wonder about our lives, make excuses and give reasons why we arent where we ought to be. Am not saying you should be where you ought to be, but that you be on the road there. I looked up on the designer Paul Smith and thought we should learn a thing or two from his story.

Paul Smith was born in Beeston, Nothinghamshire 5th  july 1946, left school at the age of 14, a memeber of Beeston Road Club. His main ambition was to become a racing cyclist, but his father hauled him off to work in a Clothing Warehouse. At first he had no interest in fashion, for two years he enjoyed only his cycle to work “not the job”.  He then had an accident which put an end to his cycling ambition, but became the begining of his fashion journey, with the six months he spent in the hospital, he built a network of friends whom he arranged to meet at a local pub popular with art students, there he decided he wanted to be part of their colourful world.

He went on to take tailoring classes with Gordon Valentin Tipton, who showed him the basics of tailoring as well as how to cut.

Paul Smith could have taken that accident as a sign that he wasnt meant to be great, sit in a pub all his life telling stories of how he could have been a great cyclist, blame his father and everyone around him for his problems, criticize other people for the little they’re doing but instead, he decided on a new ambition and worked towards achieving it. today, we all know his name and some of us wear his clothes and carry his bags with pride.

My Point: Whats your ambition? What are you doing to achieve it?Are you blaming everyone else for your problems? Did something or someone discourage it? Either follow through or get a new one.
You’re a star wherever you are, “Shine your shine let others shine their shine”.
